Your first shared trip

A short lesson that takes you from sign-in to a shared itinerary with one companion.

This tutorial walks through one successful outcome: a two-person trip with a destination, a couple of stops, a reservation, and an invite. Follow the steps in order the first time; later you can jump to individual how-to guides.

What you will have at the end

  • An OpenTrip account
  • One trip with dates and a cover
  • At least two stops on the schedule
  • One reservation
  • A second person invited as an editor

1. Sign in

  1. Open OpenTrip.
  2. Choose Start planning.
  3. Continue with email, Google, or WeChat (whichever your deployment offers).
  4. If you used email, complete verification before the first password sign-in.

2. Create the trip

  1. From the trips home, choose Create trip.
  2. Enter a destination and travel dates. Optional fields (party size, planned budget) are hints for the group — they do not create members or expenses.
  3. Review the suggested cover, then create the trip.

On first open, OpenTrip may offer an AI-suggested draft. Read it, edit anything that looks wrong, and only send or apply changes you want on the shared plan.

3. Add the first stops

  1. Open the Schedule tab.
  2. Insert two stops on day one — for example a morning sight and a lunch stop.
  3. For each stop, set a place name, approximate time, and category.
  4. Switch to Map and confirm both stops appear on the route.

4. Record one reservation

  1. Open Reservations.
  2. Add lodging, transport, or an activity you have already booked.
  3. Include the booking reference and any check-in notes the group needs.

5. Invite a companion

  1. Open the trip member / invite controls.
  2. Create an invite with role editor so your companion can edit the plan.
  3. Share the link privately — never post it publicly.

When they accept, they appear in the member list and can edit the same trip. Connected sessions refresh when someone else saves a change.
