Roles and permissions
What owners, editors, and viewers can do on a shared trip.
OpenTrip authorizes trip actions from membership role and invite flags.
Roles
| Role | Can view trip | Can edit plan and budget | Can invite others |
|---|---|---|---|
| Owner | Yes | Yes | Yes (by default) |
| Editor | Yes | Yes | Only when canInvite is granted |
| Viewer | Yes | No | Only when canInvite is granted |
Editing includes itinerary days and stops, reservations, expenses, votes, and
comments. Viewers receive 403 on those mutations.
Invite settings
When someone with invite permission creates a link, they choose:
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Access scope | anyone with the link, or restricted_emails for listed addresses |
| Join role | New members become editor or viewer |
| Can invite | Whether joiners may create further invites |
| Expiry | When the link stops accepting new joins |
Regenerating an invite replaces the previous token. Old links stop working.
AI companion
Every member can read the shared companion timeline when the agent is enabled. Applying write tools and mutating suggestions still requires edit permission.
